GNYHA/UHF Rapid Response Systems (RRS) Quality Improvement Collaborative

Rapid Response Systems (RRS), also referred to as rapid response teams (RRTs) or medical emergency teams (METs), are designated teams of clinicians who identify high-risk patients, respond to early signs of acute deterioration, and bring critical care expertise to the bedside before patients decline into a critical state. Through the Institute for Healthcare Improvement's (IHI) 100,000 Lives Campaign, many hospitals have implemented RRS since December 2004 with success and report that implementation contributed to decreased rates of mortality and cardiac arrest, as well as a reduction in intensive care unit (ICU) length of stay.

The Greater New York Hospital Association (GNYHA) and United Hospital Fund (UHF) have embarked upon a Quality Improvement Collaborative to provide support to participating hospitals with useful technical resources and shared lessons learned from hospitals' implementation experiences. Thirty-two hospitals in the Greater New York region are participating in the Collaborative, with the primary goals of implementing and maintaining RRS, as well as identifying and disseminating effective models and best practices throughout the region This Web site, called Joint Effort New York (Jeny), which is administered through IPRO, serves as the Collaborative's information-sharing resource center, and we encourage participating hospitals to view important information, documents, and tools, as well as to share best practices here.
