Summer is fast drawing to an end and soon the influenza vaccination season will be in full swing. For the sixth consecutive year, the National Influenza Vaccine Summit is planning to produce the "Influenza Vaccination Pocket Information Guide" for use by healthcare professionals nationwide. The purpose of the guide is to provide front-line healthcare personnel with information about indications and contraindications for the injectable and intranasal influenza vaccines, information on targeted populations to be vaccinated, and details on how to administer the vaccines. Nearly one million guides were distributed last year by major medical, nursing, and pharmacist organizations, specialty societies, state health departments, Indian HealthService Area facilities, QIOs, VNAs, community vaccinators, and many, many others. As a reminder, these guides are not intended for patient use.
As part of a separate project, the Immunization Action Coalition (IAC) will also distribute a limited number of copies of the "Pneumococcal Polysaccharide Vaccination Pocket Guide" because it is a logical adjunct to the influenza pocket guide. Only a limited number of copies of the PPV guide are available this year so, if you need them, get your order in soon. There are no new changes in the PPV pocket guide so you may use any leftovers from last year that you might still have on hand.
Both pocket guides are available at no cost to your agency or organization. We encourage you to distribute the pocket guides to your members or constituents along with your encouragement to use the guides to avoid missed opportunities. Please do not encourage your members to order individual copies from the National Influenza Vaccine Summit or the Immunization Action Coalition as we are not staffed nor have funding to fill such orders.
To order either or both of these guides in quantity, go to http://www.preventinfluenza.org/pocketguides. From this site, you can view full-sized images of each of the soon-to-be-updated guides.
Please place your order for your agency or organization as soon as possible. We will begin shipping later in August.
