The critical care initiative's research study indicated that their was a lot of opportunity for the hospitals to understand the relationship between POA coding and clinical documentation. The POA indicator will be officially utilized by CMS, NYS Medicaid, and other insurers. It will also be utilized for clinical and quality research, continuous improvement, and public reporting.
The complexity of the POA indicator requires that clinical, quality, health information, and finance staff understand the guidelines and the interfaces between their work.
To that end, HANYS provided a POA coding - clinical documentation webinar. Deborah Hale, President, Administrative Consulting Services was faculty. Education and materials are attached.
