Had to post this interesting new use of the web that just came across the About Health Transparency list-serve.

“A new Web site called ZocDoc (http://www.zocdoc.com/) is enabling patients to make same-day appointments online. The site is part of an ongoing effort to reduce emergency department visits, however it should only be utilized for non-emergencies. There are currently more than 100 physicians listed, including internists and dentists, while many dermatologists will be added this year.”

Would any of you make use of this?

This sounds like an interesting proposal, however the established medical practices would not be likely to use this service, it seems like a way for new practioners to build their practices. This is not a bad thing if you're looking for a new MD, but if you happen to have an MD that has an established practice, said MD probably would not join such a service and you would have to make your appointment the old fashioned way on the phone! :)
