Participants can review the goals and proposed requirements (http://www.jointcommission.org/Standards/FieldReviews/09_npsg_fr.htm) for implementation and submit comments through an online survey until Feb. 27. The draft changes include measures under the commission’s current goals including patient identification; safe use of medications; hospital-acquired infections; medication reconciliation; and patient involvement. The protocol governing all the goals also could be revised.
Healthcare facilities accredited through the commission must adhere to the organization’s patient-safety goals, which include specific evidence-based practices. The goals are reviewed annually.
