HANYS’ Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (VAP) Prevention Project is focused on assisting hospitals and systems to both sustain their successes and enhanced their programs with the newer innovations.
The project includes:
VAP Prevention education and action planning
Education on and use of the CDC-NHSN VAP definitions, criteria, and guidelines
Focus on newer practices in oral care, reduced sedation, and activity/mobility
Sharing of tools, techniques, and materials
Ongoing discussion groups and Physician Advisor supportOver 50 New York State hospitals are participating. The VAP Prevention Project was sponsored through a grant from the New York State Department of Health, Division of Epidemiology and HAI Management.
